If you listen to mainstream radio from time to time (*lol*) you might have stumbled over "Gotye" and his Somebody I Used To Know - a song played all over in the charts since last year. Well, think of the song what you like - for me it's not the ultimate "burner", but compared to the other 20 German mainstream radio top songs which are continously being repeated hour after hour until your ears start bleeding due to the never-ending monotony, it's the far best at the moment.

And just don't bother about the, ehm, "weird" music video when it appears on your screen - it's art, you know.... ;)

MPM rock the pub

Last Saturday Ansbach five piece My Perfect Mistake went down to the Flyers Pub Ansbach to rock the walls. My dear readers, I was really impressed! They get better on every gig they play (although they are practising even less, as they keep telling me ;-) )

As always when they play at the Flyers, they also were performing a complete new song this time as well, named "Like a Lifetime". Didn't catch the name at first, but I guess this is secondary anyway - much more important: that "world premiere" kicked ass! Just as their other punkrock tunes.

Yep, you can easily guess, it's my personal highlight of this month: This Club (formerly Hoarsebox) are releasing their first single "I won't worry" ’ through Warner Music Ireland on Friday August 12th - Definitely one of the summer-hits of 2011 - dancy, edgy and energetic! Mixed by Joe Zook (an LA-based mixing engineer who has worked on tracks by people like Katy Perry, Pink, Mika and Timbaland) their new tune ‘I Wont Worry’ is an addictive, upbeat hook laden track that will rock your summer (and also the weeks after ;) )!
This Club's debut album was produced by Dennis Herring, who has produced seminal albums from bands such as Modest Mouse, The Hives and Counting Crows. His input has had uite an impact on the music of the band, so fans should expect some departures from the Hoarsebox of old. One thing that certainly won’t be missing though is the huge sense of fun and energy that the band always brings to their live shows.

Speaking about live shows: There are a number of gig dates coming up for This Club - I'll definitely keep you updated ;)

Alternative Punk lessons with Event Horses

The Northern Irish punk-rock band Event Horses just started their summer tour across Ireland - teaching people what real head-banging tunes sound like.
Like a mixture of the D4 and Downset - those guys are just rocking - live on stage as well as from your stereo.

Anyone remember the song "Your Woman" from the UK synthie band "White Town"? It was quite a blast in 1997/1998 but also a classic One Hit Wonder for White Town.
I've loved this song since I first listened to it and it still is one of my alltime favourites. The lyrics are beautiful and tragic and I somehow find it funny, that a man is singing "I could never be your woman" - it's not the first time a gilr's song is performed by a boy, I know, but still I find it quite striking here.

Oh and yes, do the tunes sound like Star Wars?! Yes they do indeed - this song was inspired by Al Bowlly's "My Woman", a jazz song from the 1930s. And obviously this song also gave some inspiration for the Star Wars soundtrack as well. You agree?

Such a nice little, very musical, film from my hometown in Bavaria. They asked people on the street who wore headphones, which song they were listening to right now. The result is a quite diversified soundtrack - from QOTSA and Rammstein to Rhianna and Colette.

News from underground - Interview with FragileChild

Today I bring to you a little interview with the Ansbach Goth-Rock band FragileChild (www.myspace.com/fragilechild). Dennis Klinke (Programming, Lyrics, Vocals) started this underground band project about six years ago and meanwhile – after various changes of the band members – his close friend Mex (guitar) has completed the band set up. FragileChilds tunes sound like a mixture of Goth-Rock with a lot of electronic elements, sometimes they even may remind you of the beats in a major dance club. Their influences come from Blutengeland Solar Fake to Guns N Roses and Muse – also quite a mixture ;-) I had the honor to speak to Dennis about everything between the origin of FragileChild and their future plans.
What was the original idea of the band FragileChild? Why and when did you establish FragileChild as a band and what has changed since then?
Dennis: I wanted to create an image of everything I feel inside and convert my past. From the first second on (in 2005), I wanted to create electronic music, with guitars and female vocals but I think that FragileChild is still a project (maybe a little band ;-) FragileChild was founded April in 2005 as solo project of mine. The cast more often changed to 2008. Since Mex is present we had two female-vocalist changing. Then we have resolved to make only further music.

What's the story behind your band name?
Dennis: the name is still a reflection of my inner. FragileChild is a part of me. When I look back in 2005 I was very weak and more depressive as today. The meaning (or a part of it) is actually written down in the lyrics of our song "Fragile Child". The times when I cut myself while I can´t stand the pain of life. The fact that no one asks you if you actually want to live but everyone tells you how you have to live.

You recently signed up for a record-label - what does this mean for FragileChild? What are your plans and what can fans be expecting?
Dennis: For FragileChild it’s a big step! It means that we can release our CDs officially and get a larger public. Fans can expect that the songs will be more danceable, atmospherically and harder than the first ones! We have learned out of our mistakes we made on our release "Feuertaufe".

What was the greatest story ever happening to you as a band so far?
Dennis: the whole band history ;-) so really starts it since Mex in addition came. Some highlights are definitive: our friendship for what I am very thankful! The first live concert, to present our debut album in local radio and that FragileChild after 6 years of band history got a label and management.

And what was the most disappointing moment?
Dennis: FragileChild would almost have gone to the ground in 2010 from private reasons... we had a complete burn-out!! But luckily we managed to pull ourselves together and after a break we were back to business.

What are the themes of your songs and how do you get the ideas for your lyrics?
Dennis: I write about life, suicide and death, how it feels to be loved and to be unloved. Mostly I write the lyrics when I’m down or pissed off!

Any upcoming releases?
Dennis: Yes, definitely. In March we will be releasing our new EP "Selfhate" as limited CD- edition, not on label. In May our first single and in summer or late summer our second-album is to be released.

The Prosecution - Punk, ska and wind instruments

Awesome, awesome, just an awesome band, I've discovered this Saturday on an Underground-Festival in my hometown. 7 guys rocking on the stage, not only playing guitars and drums, but also saxophone, trumpet and trobone. A Skapunk band of the rarer kind I'd say ;) They played 1,5 hours and the people just couldn't get enough. Here's their video for "Our Kind Of Art" - Enjoy and celebrate :)

"Throwing Vespas off the roof" - Interview with The Looks from Ireland

Back to blogging - back with another great interview: Graham from the Dublin newcomer band The Looks (I introduced them on Noisy Crumb here)gave me a nice interview about their band life, their upcoming releases and gigs and, of course, their future plans. Yey, those guys want to get famous and they definitely are on a good way, with their tunes. All I can say about them, is, that if you support The Looks, you support good, extraordinary handmade rock-music and now, have fun reading :)

How did you guys originally get together as a band?
Well we were kids with guitars who enjoyed playing music together. We just haven't stopped yet. About two years ago now we got a kick and got some musical direction. Since then we've found a sound and style that gets us all very excited in all the right places.

You’re recording your album at the moment – when will it be released and what should fans be expecting?
Fans? Holy shit we have fans, I gotta go tell my mum... Well we started working with a very talented musician, Johnny Murphy [aka Spud Murphy] on pre production for a few tracks before we released our first single, Romeo/Enemies. That worked really well. Then we met critically acclaimed producer Pete Meighan and we did the final production on those arrangements. We loved this work flow. I feel it helps us get the best sound out of the songs we have. We are still constantly writing new stuff. The second single is out in February and hopefully the album will follow toward the end of the year. None of us our happy releasing an album with anything other than banging track after banging track. It'll be worth the wait.

What’s the story with your music video for “Enemies”? How did you get the idea with the “sports”-competition?
Enemies was made with a great film company, here in Dublin, called Krank. They're brilliant and came to us with this fun idea. When someone asks you to be part of a sports day you gotta say, hell yeah. So we and a load of people showed up looking wonderful/ridiculous. And the rest is the beauty you see. I can't wait to work with Krank again.

What was the best story happening to you as a band?
- Living together, living on bread and wine in London. - Having a full crowd sing back our songs. - Supporting great bands like New Young Pony Club. - The success of our first single. - Walking into a night club and hearing my song playing. Sorry I couldn't pick one thing. I love being in this band playing our music to whoever will listen. It's a drug addiction.

And what was the most unpleasant or disappointing story that happened to you as a band?
I'm not standing on top of a hotel somewhere in Europe throwing a Vespa off the roof, with our manager trying to coax me down from my euphoric rage. This is what I imagine to happen when we are a massive band. So my biggest disappointment is that we're not at that stage yet, and when we are that big, I'm sure I’ll be disappointed we're not bigger. I just want more.

Any other outstanding story you'd like to tell?
The story I want to tell is one that starts with “when we were playing a gig in Germany” , but we haven't being invited yet. HINT HINT. Oh when that story of stories is told, how we'll both look back and laugh at the parts you couldn't print.

Any upcoming gig-dates?
We're playing night clubs in Dublin this month but the next big one for us is the single release at the end of February. Hopefully we get to tour outside this island again very very soon.

New Single from Irish band Pilotlight

Irish four-piece Pilotlight will be hitting the UK/Irish music scene with their new single "South". The single will be released through Glasstone Records on January 31st and will be available as download only. Pilotlight have just finished their Irish tour and are back to follow up their critically acclaimed album “The Post War Musical” with this new single.

The band were “conceived with the premise of creating an escapism through music that the listener could soundtrack their daily lives to. Their use of perspective, tonality and dynamic have allowed them to pioneer their own style of despondent alternative rock.” That’s what the official press release tells about their music style, and I couldn’t have given a better statement about it. "South" just sounds like that: Smooth but still cutting tunes with beautiful lyrics and I really really like it. Pilotlight do remind me of that German band Palestar who call their musical style Shoegaze.

So, after all, give a listen to Pilotlight on their MySpace page and download their new single "South" - I'm sure you'll not regret it ;)

Hard Rock from the bottom of the beer bottle – Interview with “Sons of Hollister”

Some of you may already have seen this upcoming ass-kicking five-piece from Ansbach live on stage. And for those of you who haven’t: you should know what your plans are for this weekend after reading this blog post. The “Sons of Hollister” (Jack von Kuliberda – Vocals, Dani Gee – Guitars, Markus – Guitars, Toni – Bass and Simon – Drums) gave me a “fluffing” interview about their upcoming shows and releases as well as their short but thriving band-history...
Since when is your band existing and how did you get together as a band?
Officially, we founded our band on 4 July 2010, so not really that long time ago. Most of the guys, however, had known each other before. They played in bands like Blood Inspired and Under Bottom together. When Simon, the drummer, joined the Under Bottom gang (Dani, Markus and Toni) in 2009 the band took a turn away from questionable death metal to a thing we now call Booze’n’Roll. Joining of a new singer in mid 2010 was the result of that turn, so we got ourselves a freshly imported Polish drunk to complete the group ;)

Is there a story behind your band name?
Sure there is! It’s a cool story happening in the 1940’s. On 4 July 1947, in Hollister, CA, there was a motorcycle rally planned. There are quite many versions of the story, but the version brought to the public by the media was pretty damn cool. Let us quote a passage from a song of ours, Onepercenter, where we actually took the headlines and quotes from local newspapers (i.e. San Francisco Chronicle) telling crap about this rally:

Latest news from Hollister bad time: / The outrage of terrorism, wrecking of bars / They piss on the street and rampage the town / Town overrun by filthy, lawless drunks

The story told is actually quite far from truth, because the town of Hollister organized the rally normally one year later, without taking concern about those alleged riots. The story however emerged to be the first really legend about outlaw bikers in the US and we found the name Sons of Hollister pretty cool.

What was the greatest story happening to you as a band?
You know, just now, we are recording the demo and we’re fuelling our engines for a goddamn concert hellride in the upcoming year. The greatest story is that we do what we love and that we manage to convince people to come round to our gigs and listen to some good old rock’n’roll!

And what was the most disappointing situation?
No beer in the studio!! A fluffing disaster, we gotta say! There is only one dude responsible for this crime against rock’n’roll, our drummer Simon wasn’t there to bring us some Beer! Why would a band have drummer, if he wouldn’t organize Beer? Yeah, to organize vodka, but still, there wasn’t any vodka either ;)

Any new gigs planned?
Right now we’re in the process of booking for the next year, so right now there’s only one gig certain:
11 December 2010 – Weißenburg – Local Vision Band Contest in Casablanca.
Apart from that we’ll be playing at the Anton Rock Fest in the fall of 2011.

You are studio-recording at the moment - what can fans expect from your upcoming demo?
Imagine a scorpion, a Doberman and a fluffing anaconda closed in one small bag and fighting the sh** out of each other. Who will win? Who cares! But it’s gonna be one hell of a show!

Their demo is to be released in early 2011 and, as the boys promised me: It’s gonna get dirty, it’s gonna get old school and it’s gonna ROCK! So keep an eye on the Sons of Hollister!

AnTon Finals

Nein, ich habe es nicht vergessen, euch von den Gewinnern des diesjährigen AnTon zu erzählen, musste aber meinen Bericht krankheitsbedingt leider zurückstellen.
Aber auf an-ton.net konntet ihr, falls ihr nicht bis zur Siegerehrung da ward, die Gewinner ja bereits sehen:

1. Platz: Super Dance Orchestra
2. Platz: Uritup
3. Platz: Spirit of Cronos
4. Platz: Tinituz
und den 5. Platz teilen sich Beide und My Hero failed

Die "Glitzerleut" haben also gewonnen, meiner Meinung nach auch verdient: mal was anderes. Die Kreativität ihrer "Shows" war dabei natürlich herausstechend....
Herausstechend waren auch Uritrup und auch sie haben "mal was anderes geboten" (was man ja bei einer Experimental-Band auch erwartet). Über die Platzierung auf dem zweiten Platz kann man sich gerade bei dieser Band mehr als streiten, denn etwas gewöhnungsbedürftig ist ihr Sound meiner Meinung nach schon. Und so gingen auch die Meinungen beim Publikume, was ihre Musik anbelangt, ziemlich auseinander...
Dritter Platz: Spirit of Cronons. Passt. Punkt.
Auch dass Tinituz es ins Finale geschafft haben, freut mich - lange haben sies versucht und sind von Jahr zu Jahr besser geworden. Was lange währt wird also auch gut und laut ;)

Und schon ist es wieder fast vorbei: der AnTon 2010 neigt sich seinem spannenden Ende zu.
Die Finalisten, die wir heute Abend auf die Ohren kriegen sind in alphabetischer Reihenfolge:

- Beide (spielten gestern)
- My Hero failed (spielten am Mittwoch)
- Super Dance Orchestra (spielten am Mittwoch)
- Spirit of Cronos (spielten gestern)
- Tinituz (spielten gestern )
- Uritup (spielten gestern)

Ihr habt euch übrigens nicht verschaut - es sind diesmal wirklich sechs Finalisten. Wegen Punktegleichstand. Faire Jury würd ich sagen.
Leicht hatte es die Jury dieses Jahr anscheinend also nicht. Die Qualität der dargebotenen Bands sei durchweg besser als beim letzten AnTon. Einige Besucher waren vielleicht auch deswegen mit dem Urteil der Jury nicht 100%ig zufrieden und hätten teilweise andere Bands ins Finale gewählt. Was soll man sagen? Der AnTon war dieses Mal wirklich sehr bunt gemischt und der persönliche Geschmack spielt natürlich auch immer noch eine kleine (gemeine?) Rolle.
Deswegen bin ich persönlich trotzdem mehr als gespannt und freue mich auf heute Abend. Lasst es krachen und mögen die Besten siegen :)

Punkrock with friends - Interview with My Perfect Mistake

For 9 years now, My Perfect Mistake (www.myspace.com/myperfectmistakeger) have been rocking Franconia over and over again and have become a household-name for the local Punkrock-Scene and great live-gigs.
Marty (bass) and Stephan "Steps" (lead-guitar) gave me an insight into their yeasty band-history and their future musical plans.

Looking back at your band-history, what was the greatest story in your band history? Your best memories?

Marty: One thing I certainly remember was a gig in a tiny little club in Dinkelsbühl. That was way back in 2004 or something. There were only about 12 people there but they were partying like a hundred. I never experienced so much passion and honesty from such a small crowd.
Steps: I definitely agree with Marty! We already played in Dinkelsbühl two years before this gig and it was suprising to us that people still remembered us and our songs- especially "I'll burn your mum". People took Dd's mic and sang the chorus of this song. Unbelievable! Spending time with the band is generally a great thing since we are all friends and not only band members.

And what was the biggest turn-down?

Marty: A big disappointment was our show at Townquake festival. We were really psyched we could play an actual festival in our home town. With a really big stage and loads of people and all. But things didn’t turn out that good, our playing time was cut for no apparent reason and people were scattered all over the site…but no one was in front of the stage! Other things I kind of have bad memories about is never being able to make the An-TON finals and also that our long-time drummer quit in a very surprising way!
Steps: Marty is right when he says that our last drummer quitted all of a sudden. But having a second thought on it, it couldn't have been better/we couldn't have been luckier. His successor is definitely worth his money! ;-)

Any other outstanding story you'd like to tell?

Marty: One story that comes to my mind is one special gig we played. A friend of the band asked us to play a gig at her living room for her birthday! So we brought all our stuff to this living room, which was not big by any means, to play. We thought it would be good to finish at least half our set before the police shows up. Actually they never did and we had great fun. Our friend took it a little to far by drinking a Jägermeister shot after every song lol…We also recorded that gig, which is our first live recording entitled “Live at the Wohnzimmer”. It was never released in any way however. Another classic is pretty simple: hangovers! Steffen and me already had to cancel band practice several times due to bad hangovers!
Steps: The "Wohnzimmer-Gig" was amazing! From stage-diving to wall of death- everything was included! A next gig is already planned for 2011.
Boozers- that's what one should call you! ;-)

Your band is exsisting for 9 years now. How did you originally get together as a band? And what has changed since then?

Marty: The band started out as N.O. A.S.S. in 2001. The only original member left of that line-up is Stephan. The band has always and still is rehearsing in his basement. Steps: The original band consisted of schoolmates and friends. I think Dd joined the band in 2001. After several different bass players had joined the band - there was a big change going on during several years - Marty became a fixed member of the band in 2002 (Originally he was only meant to be a temporary band member!) and the band was completed for the following years.
Marty: It was kind of your classic school-band thing I guess. Obviously loads of things changed over the time. First the name was changed to “Minus One” and DD was hired as a new singer. Other big changes were adding a second guitarist (Steffen), and the last important change was at the drums…Rüdi joining us about a year ago. We decided to change the name onceagain about 4 or 5 years ago to “My Perfect Mistake”. As far as musical styles go the band started out as strictly punkrock then having more of a crossover phase. We returned to the punkrock roots as soon as I joined the band. Over the years we added a lot more Metal and hardcore influences to our punkrock concept, but it’s still heading in that direction. Plus our basement turned from a simple room to rehearse into a makeshift studio with loads of equipment Stephan bought!

When you changed your band name to MPM, how did you get that idea? What's the story behnd it?

Marty: It’s actually a bit of a sad story… We chose the name “Minus One” initially because we were practicing in the basement (one floor below so to say.) We grew tired of it and after we found out there was actually an American band using the name (AND having the copyright to it) we opted for a change. One of our friends always told us, if he had a band he would call it “My Perfect Mistake”. Me personally, I didn’t like the name. Then however our friends died in a car accident. And since we were still looking for a name, we decided to use the one he proposed to us.
Steps: It was actually the day of his burial when we decided to pick that name.
Marty: And we don’t regret it, the name has really grown on us.

One of your older songs is "I'll Burn Your Mum". Apart from the quite interesting title, it seems to be a real "classic" to some of your fans. What's the story behind it?

Marty: All I know is it goes back to the boys teasing each other at practice all the time, resulting in the phrase “I’ll burn your mum!” I have no idea why the song is so popular and quite a few remember it so well!
Steps: I'll burn your mum- well, I didn't really get that either. There was something going on with "Mutterwitze" ("Dei Mutter kann net kochen", "Dei Mutter brennt") between DD and our former bass player. This song is really stupid, but at least everyone knows it Marty: I guess it is because of the catchy sing-along chorus and the -sort of- funny lyrics. From a musical standpoint we don’t consider this one of our strong songs…not even close! Anyway we just might play it on a special occasion, maybe our anniversary or if we can play a show in Dentlein at some point.

Any new releases?

Marty: We have been working on that EP for over a year now! Somehow the work on it has constantly been slowed down, but we are now literally inches from finishing it! It will feature 6 songs and is definitely our best work so far. We might hit a professional studio later this year recording another 3 tracks! Hopefully this will work out as planned. After that we will focus on writing more songs for our next EP or LP!

Marc von den Dying Turnschuhs beschreibt, was man bei den Live-Auftritten dieser Newcomer-Band aus Ansbach aus jedem Song heraushört: Leidenschaft und Spaß. Und Punk. Richtig guten Punk.
Die Dying Turnschuhs - das sind Flo am Gesang, Luci am Bass, Katja am Schlagzeug und Marc an der Gitarre und als zweite Stimme.
Im Oktober 2009 war die Band erstmals am Start und seit Mai diesen Jahres spielen sie in der jetzigen Besetzung. Von den ursprünglichen Band-Mitgliedern sind aber nur noch Katja und Marc dabei.
Ihre Texte handeln hauptsächlich über Gefühle und interessante Erlebnisse - ich sage nur "Forever Wanderstiefel" ;)
Wenn es ums Berühmt-werden geht, ist das Motto der Dying Turnschuhs Punk pur: "DIY forever." - kein Kommerz, keine Homepage, keine MP3-Downloads, kein MySpace, kein Facebook. Live erleben heißt also die Devise.
Und das könnt ihr: am Mittwoch, den 27.10. um 19:30 beim AN.Ton-Vorentscheid und hoffentlich am Freitag dann im Finale!

Dublin Gospel Choir - Doing Their Thing - a review

With “Doing Their Thing” the Dublin Gospel Choir is to be mentioned in the same breath as the other big European gospel choirs, like the great Oslo Gospel Choir. Here already the similarity of their names is a pointer to the music presented. But still, the Dublin Gospel Choir is different, as one is bethinking its Irish heritage and one can perceive influences of the traditional music of their home country here and there. This is becoming their over-all sound greatly.
Amongst traditionals like “Pass Me Not” the v is presenting tracks by genius Kirk Franklin as well as pop-songs in Gospel sound, e. g. the opener “You and Me“ (Cranberries), “Ain’t No Mountain“ (Ashford & Simpson) or “Something Wonderful“ (Eleanor McEvoy). And so, you are not getting the typical same old story / typical mishmash / typical monotony of the “classic” gospel choirs, but a lot of new influences and an enhancement of the repertoire.
The 11 members are wowing their audience with their singing at any time and the accompanying musicians are grooving along smoothly and easily. And anytime Eamon Galladubb is playing the low whistle, a part of Ireland is becoming alive within the gospel music. “Doing Their Thing” is a beautiful album with a choir, that’s intonating precisely and confidently, but is never lacking the joy of singing. Gospel fans should not miss out on the Dublin Gospel Choir.

New Hoarsebox song for free + new tour date

As you may or may not know, Hoarsebox have been based in Mississippi for almost a year now working on their debut album. As I was told, they all thought it would be done over the course of a weekend but, 12 months on, they're still there saying things like 'y'all', drinking bourbon and considering the mullet as the band's next 'do'.

So much has changed for Hoarsebox in the last year and this has had a considerable influence on their music. Do not be alarmed. This isn't like Dylan going electric. The core aim of Hoarsebox is still to get people moving their arses / asses / butts / culos with as much vocal acrobatics and lush harmonies as is humanly possible. One of their new songs is called "Add It Up" and you can download it for FREE on their Facebook page. This song is so definitely Hoarsebox - I love it :)

In November Hoarsebox returning to home soil to play at Whelan's, Dublin. This will be the first time they play the new songs in front of an audience so this could be quite a fresh and exciting turning point for the band. Yep, meanwhile we all know about the reception problems with some iPhone 4 smartphones. And now, we also have a brilliant, humorous song about how to handle these problems:

This is the chorus of Jonathan Mann's song number 561. This guy writes one song a day and - well he seems to like Apple ;)
No seriously, he seems to be pretty right with his song, if you know that just 0.55% of iPhone 4 users complained about the reception problems after all. So Apple unceremoniously presented this song at the beginning of their extra press conference on Friday. Well, I think they were right to use this song to calm the waves - don't you agree?

New Video and new Version of “I Like Disco” Some interesting (old) news from the Irish alternative/rock band ITO:
I recently saw on their MySpace that they obviously are not called ITO anymore. They now call themselves after their lead singer: J.(ohnny) R. (Rayge) & The Imaginary Travelling Orchestra – nice one! I actually never could get something out of the abbreviation name ITO.
But, there’s more – you remember their song “I Like Disco”? Sure you do. One of my absolute favourites. And some time back this year ITO composed a new version of this song. The song I Like Disco is a homage to a Irish sporting hero and international rugby captain Brian O’Driscoll – with new lyrics and new musical elements and tunes here and there. This song was composed for charity – to raise money for the people from Haiti with every download. Really really nice and it actually got quite popular in Ireland I was told...
Also, they also produced a music video for “Drisco”! A really stylish one (with Drisco in it of course)! I love it!

New Noise – The Looks from Ireland

Yeah – see who’s blogging again! I am back on Noisy Crumb with quite a bunch of new stories.
For a start, I’d like to introduce you a new band from the Shamrock Island – The Looks from Dublin. An four piece Indie-Punk band who – in my opinion – really stand out of the crowd of all those local Punk bands flooding the planet. Don’t get me wrong – I like this kind of music, but a lot of those bands just sound completely alike and quite boring after some time.
But not the Looks. “Rasping Indie-Punk guitar riffs and biting lyrical observations” – that’s exactly how I would describe their music and that’s what I like about them. And what you will probably like as well ;) In July 2010 The Looks release their debut single which will be a double a-side affair, Enemies / Romeo.
I already had a listen to the demos of these songs some time back and of course I also know the final versions and I just can say: Well done, guys!

Music Marketing, PR and the Red Hot Chili Peppers - Interview with Klaus Fischer, ARGO Konzerte

Klaus Fischer, Manager of the PR- and Press Department at ARGO Konzerte, talks about why PR is so important for the success of music-events, why PR can be identically equal to Marketing in general and what (quirky) situations a PR Manager for music events has to deal with.ARGO Konzerte is one of the most important concert promoters in Germany.

Was sind Ihre wichtigsten Aufgaben im Tagesgeschäft bzw. vor Ort bei Veranstaltungen?
Die wichtigste Aufgabe als Presse- und Öffentlichkeitsarbeiter in einer Konzertagentur ist im Prinzip ganz einfach. Nämlich dafür Sorge zu tragen, dass über die Konzerte und Shows die ARGO Konzerte veranstaltet, in der Presse berichtet wird. D. h. es muss gelingen viele bis sehr viele Artikel, sprich umfangreiche Veröffentlichungen, zu generieren. Dies ist bei einer Veranstaltung wie „Rock im Park“ einfacher zu bewerkstelligen als etwa bei einer Show mit Florian Silbereisen. Dennoch muss man beides mit der gleichen Professionalität angehen. Denn womit verdient eine Konzertagentur ihr Geld? Durch den Verkauf von Karten. Wie wird der Kunde aufmerksam auf eine Veranstaltung? Indem er einen Artikel oder Ankündigung in der Zeitung liest. Am Tage der Veranstaltung heißt es für den Pressemitarbeiter sich im in erster Linie um die Redakteure und Fotografen zu kümmern. Der Redakteur erhält die aktuellsten Infos zur Veranstaltung. Die Fotografen werden in den Pressegraben geführt, von wo aus sie ihre Bilder schießen dürfen. Und spätestens zwei Tage nach der Show heißt es die Zeitungen auszuwerten, um zu erfahren, was die Presse über die Veranstaltung geschrieben hat.

Warum wird die Presseabteilung bei ARGO gleichzeitig Marketing/PR-Abteilung genannt?
Weil sie auch für Marketingaufgaben zuständig ist. Dies beinhaltet zum einen die Abschlüsse von Präsentationsvereinbarungen. D. h. das Medium, in der Regel Tageszeitung oder Radio, stellt Medialeistung zur Verfügung. Bei einer Tageszeitung erhält der Veranstalter Anzeigenraum, über den er in einer bestimmten Form verfügen kann, im Radio sind es Sendeminuten. Im Gegenzug erscheint das Logo des Präsentators (=Medium) auf Plakat und Flyer. Eine Marketingmaßnahme kann aber auch sein, mit Öffentlichkeitsarbeit einer Veranstaltung in den Medien zu mehr Präsenz zu verhelfen. Das kann die Vermittlung eines Interviews sein, Verlosungen von Merchandisingartikeln, Einladungen zu Pressereisen, Verlosungen von Meet & Greets und vieles mehr.

Was macht gute Pressearbeit für einen Veranstalter wie ARGO Konzerte aus?
Eine gute Pressearbeit in der Konzertbranche zeigt sich dadurch, dass die oben genannten Maßnahmen greifen und so zu einem vollen Konzert oder einer ausverkauften Show beitragen. ARGO ist ein privat geführtes Unternehmen, das selbstverständlich auf seine Wirtschaftlichkeit achten muss. Aufgrund der guten Kontakte in der bundesdeutschen Tourneebranche gelingt es ARGO, Künstler zu veranstalten, die sofort Anklang in der Öffentlichkeit finden, weil jeder ihre Namen kennt. So z.B. Sting, Linkin Park oder Herbert Grönemeyer. Umso schöner ist es dann, wenn kleinere und weithin noch unbekannte Bands mit Hilfe von guter PR-Arbeit vor vollem Haus spielen, wie uns dies bei Die Ohrbooten im Dezember 2006 im Würzburger Soundpark Ost gelungen ist.

Warum ist es nicht immer gerechtfertigt, als Grund für das Floppen einer Veranstaltung schlechte Presse-/Marketingarbeit anzuführen?
Das Publikum entscheidet. Ich glaube an den selbstbewussten, aufgeklärten Konsumenten, sprich an den Käufer einer Eintrittskarte, der genau weiß, warum er sich ein Ticket besorgt oder auch nicht. Es hilft die beste Pressearbeit nichts, wenn der Künstler vom Publikum nicht angenommen wird. Eine solche Erfahrung mussten auch schon Bands wie die Rolling Stones und andere machen.

Wodurch zeichnen sich "schwierige" und "umgängliche" Medienvertreter aus?
Bei Argo Konzerte unterscheiden wir nicht in schwierige und umgängliche Medienvertreter. In Deutschland haben wir Pressefreiheit. Das ist richtig so und soll auch so bleiben. Wenn ein Medienvertreter sich entscheidet, über den einen oder anderen Künstler nicht berichten zu wollen, dann ist dies sein gutes Recht. Vielleicht hat die eine Zeitung oder Radio jetzt gerade nicht unbedingt Lust Merchandisingartikel zu verlosen, dann ist sie aber vielleicht beim nächsten Mal mit Begeisterung dabei, wenn es um ein Meet & Greet für ihr Publikum geht. Es ist ein Geben und Nehmen.

Was war das Skurrilste, das Ihnen in Ihrem Posten bei ARGO passiert ist
Es gibt Anekdoten, die gehören nicht in die Öffentlichkeit. Und es gibt Anekdoten, die vergisst man nicht. Wie diese: Bei einer Pressekonferenz zu „Lord Of The Dance“, der bekannten irischen Stepp-Tanz-Show, wollte ein Journalist dem „Herrn des Tanzes“ eine Frage stellen. Damit meinte er nicht Michael Flatley, der bei der Pressekonferenz anwesend war und der Erfinder der Show ist. Der Journalist war fest davon überzeugt, hinter „Lord Of The Dance“ stecke eine real existierende Person. Was natürlich Unsinn ist, er war aber nicht davon abzubringen. Oder bei „Rock im Park 2004“, da brachten die Red Hot Chili Peppers einen eigenen Koch mit. Anscheinend hat es den Peppers aber nicht geschmeckt, was dieser ihnen servierte, denn plötzlich tauchte die gesamte Band im allgemeinen Künstler-Catering auf und machte sich übers Büffet her...

Songs for a spring-day - UK vs. Germany

Today, folks, I'd like to present you two songs, which both are perfect lifting up your mood on a sunny spring-day like today (we have 20 degrees! 20 degrees! In March!!). These two songs belong to my absolute favourits, but still, I think the best season their tunes "fit" in is Spring. So which are those?
The first one should be known to most of you. It's Whippin Piccadilly Tonight performed by the UK-band Gomez. Back in 1998/1999 this piece was on top the Alternative Charts, and I think it also appeared in the popular Charts as well. Anyway, it's an activating fresh tune and gives us a very true statement for every nice spring-day: "There's not enough hours in our day." - Oh, how right they are....
Well, secondly, we have "Gekommen um zu bleiben" by the German band Wir Sind Helden ("We are heroes"). This song also sounds very unique and definitely outstanding. And, there is also a very true phrase for a spring-day in it. "Gekommen um zu bleiben" means "We've come to stay" or "It has come to stay" - so, in case of the sunny weather, the birds, the flowers and the butterflies we of cause hope that spring's here to stay, right?
Well, you may now decide by yourself, which one makes the perfect background-tune for your perfect spring-day. Enjoy!

2 videos - 1 song - OK Go!

Most of you will have noticed it already: the OK Go virus is spreading in the net again. Facebookers, MySpacers and Bloggers are putting the new OK Go video "This too shall pass" on their profiles and websites. Mostly they are posting the Rube Goldberg Machine version of this video, but there's actually an earlier version to be found on the net - the "normal" version.

Spring's coming! And we know, this means that the snow is melting and the snowflakes are turning to rain just before the sun wins the battle against winter.
So folks, here's a lovely song for a grey, or even not so grey, day: "Rain" performed by The Beatles. It's not one of their very famous songs, however - but, as you know me, this makes it even better for ;)
The melodies are really beautiful and the bass guitar's tune and rhythm keep reminding me of the Oceans' 11 / 12 / 13 soundtracks - keep listening closely.
The music video for this song is just nicely done - very authentic and very " Beatles" although it's not pushy nor very colourful as some other Beatles videos may be considered as. I discovered it on YouTube, enjoy it, folks:

Hi folks - and it's good to be back in the bloging business, I tell you! I'm trying to publish more news in the next couple of days - first on an irregular basis but I hope to get back to regular blogging soon.
So let's have a look at today's theme - shall we?
I found this video two days ago and it's featuring one of my most favourite songs by one of my very favourite bands: Fujiya & Miyagi and Knickerbocker Glory. Well, it seems that I am not the only person on this planet who loves this song: this little girl keeps singing the chorus over and over again - shy in the beginning but with really great enthusiasm towards the end -and with such a lovely lovely dialect ;) I bet she'd be headbanging at minute 3:00 of the song *lol*...

For all those iPhoners amonst you: A new iPhone app was released recently. It's called "Band in the Hand" and is perfect for music-lovers, as it lets bands stay in direct contact with their fans and vice versa.
The first band to utilize this app are Hoarsebox! Hoarsebox-fans who download "Band in the Hand" can expect quite something:
Currently, the app includes Hoarsebox news, songs, biographies and videos, and offers features such as ‘Ask The Band', which allows fans to send questions directly to the band. These questions are then answered by the band in a weekly video which is released via the application.
I guess there are even more features to come and also more bands using this app to communicate with their fans.
I think zealous Music-fans should definitely keep an eye on this.....

Hoarsebox are celebrating 250 Years of Guinness with a NEW Video!

Hoarsebox will only be one of many confirmed bands to play at the 250 Years Of Guinness Celebrations next week in Dublin. But they're spreading the word about that very nicely with a new video. "Hoarsebox with a Guinness head" - wanna have a look at that? Here you go:

The Irish Indie-Rock band from Dundalk/Louth recently put a new music video online. The first non-live music video on their MySpace! "Solid Gold" is one of their most popular songs and the videoclip for it is also quite rocking. I particularly like the shots in the dark underground carpark (is it an underground carpark??) just before the "concert" begins. Really really well done, guys! And, as I'm reading that the band "has been described akin to a riot in a nightclub", I have to say: quite authentic as well ;)

Fragile Child are releasing their album "Feuertaufe"

Finally the time has come for Fragile Child: The Ansbach based Goth-Rock band (www.myspace.com/fragilechild)are releasing their debut album on September 25th. The release party will take place at the well-known Vertigo in Fürth and should be very well-worth being there. Eventually the band managed to produce the album all by theirselves and can definitely be proud of it.
After all it has been quite a long way for them: from the one-man-project of Dennis Klinke who is arranging and writing most of the songs till the well-matiching three-piece band they are now.
Anyway, if you're not too busy with getting sober after the global 250 years of Guinness celebrations (yes, I kinda heard of that!), GO THERE and support good, unique, handmade and quite dark music ;)

Yep, the legend goes on and on and on .... this slogan of Jethro Tull's 40th Anniversary Tour is definitely true. They are just not getting tired of rocking every stage they're stepping on. The gig in Nuremberg on Sunday was one of the best gigs I've ever been on, great sound, great arrangements, great atmosphere! They just know their stuff, not like today's wannabe-rockstar-plastic-bands, who have good sound engeneers but no talent and feel great when a bunch of underaged teenage chicks keeps dangling after them.....
But Jethro Tull were not the only highlights of this evening; they were supported by the young French artist Saori Jo. I'm sure that her vigorous voice could raise a storm out of the blue; really impressive and sounding like Krezip's former singer Jacqueline Govaert and even a bit like Tina Turner. She wowed the audiece imediately and earned a lot of applause.
I'm a little bit ashamed, that I haven't known Mrs Jo before! If you'd like to get some more info about her check out Saori Jo on MySpace, enjoy the tunes!!

For those of you, who haven't seen it, YET: For Dave Carroll and his band the very last way of complaining about United Airlines was writing a song ... a quite good one I must say, even for people like me who are not into American Folk that much.
The video is currently spreading all over the blogosphere, and even big news magazines, like the German (!) "Spiegel" are meanwhile reporting about the tragic story of Dave Carroll's broken Taylor guitar and his 9-months-of-complaining-odyssey to get compensation from United. Enjoy!

Must-see for this summer

This movie is my personal must-see movie for summer 2009, if only because of the music or because the protagonists are cruising around in an original Merc 280SE (and in the end even crashing it).
And yes, well, the story is quite realistic as well, isn't it?

Some people may think this is going to be a kind of grown-up-version of "Hey Dude, Where's My Car?" but I am wondering if this movie can be called "grown-up" at all. Probably not...
By the way, it appears that crashing classical cars in popular movies has become a new trend amonst film-makers. Just think of the first scene in the Star Trek trailer, in my opinion the far best scene in the whole movie after all...

Yes, even after 24 years Ian Anderson and his fellas are not getting tired of touring (Rock 'n' Roll!!!!). They are returning to Nuremberg's SERENADENHOF on August 16th 2009.

Digital Music News about the German Popkomm

I saw this article on Digital Music News written by publisher Paul Resnikoff today. And, as you may guess, I totally agree with him. Really really liked how he described the whole "situation" in the music indusrty at the moment, and hope, you will, too:

Be thankful that Popkomm got canceled. At least the organizers had the balls to wait till next year, and the honesty not to take your money. Instead of half-filled floors, half-filled panels, and lots of lost productivity, Popkomm is wisely taking a break. And that means that would-be attendees and advertisers can save the travel, setup, and time costs, and focus on their core businesses - at home. The cancellation may have been surprising, though the reasons are obvious. Piracy is just one part of the equation, one that squarely affects major labels, retailers (traditional, online, and mobile), and everyone else tied into the recording (and yes, publishing) industries. But suddenly, dumb money is nowhere to be found, and VCs are wisely being quite cautious around music. Doom-and-gloomy? No, just realistic. Either way, the silver lining is important to recognize. In the absence of hype-filled startups and bloated investments, the post-disruptive reality starts to arrive more quickly. The scrappy, bootstrapped startups you need to know about are just getting started - and they can't afford expensive conferences anyway. And what about the other mega-events? The pressure now shifts towards Midem, an event that was ill-attended in January. Will there be another South of France flyaway in January? Taking a year off is a serious move, but justifying this event is tough - especially following the Popkomm decision. In the new climate, leaner executives are increasingly questioning the wisdom of huge get-togethers like Popkomm and Midem. Are these serious business events with real dealmaking, or parties? And what about South-by-Southwest? A much different animal, SXSW still had a healthy crowd last March, albeit with far more college kids than industry executives. But SXSW has always been a local event, one less dependent on A&R and digital professionals. And the rest? Some of the smaller events will continue to struggle through, with lower-than-normal crowds. But the tenor of these events is also shifting - does anyone really need glowing show-and-tells from struggling companies? The frothy days are over, at least for now, and the less-romantic future belongs to leaner companies with sustainable models. Popkomm has wisely decided to stop pretending.

Petition against new GEMA fees

The fees for the German collecting society GEMA are to be reorganised and, there is a public petition running against it at the moment. I personally think, that everyone, who likes good, handmade, independent music should support it. Why? A friend of mine wrote the following to give you the answer:

Um es kurz zu fassen worum es geht:

Durch die Neuregulierung der Gebühren stehen für Veranstalter Gebührenerhöhungen von bis zu 600% (!) im Raum. Hintergrund ist derjeninge das die GEMA erkannt hat das die Musikindustrie - wenn überhaupt - nur noch im Konzertbereich Geld verdient und auf diesem Wege versucht die "Urheber" mehr an diesen Umsätzen zu beteiligen.

Dieser noble unterstützenswerte Ansatz geht jedoch leider zu einem guten Teil an der Wirklichkeit vorbei. Wenn überhaupt kommt diese Gebührenerhöhung vielleicht noch den Top-Acts zu Gute.

Die meisten Veranstalter von kleineren bis mittleren Konzerten sind froh wenn Sie halbwegs auf Ihre Kosten kommen, bzw ein kleiner Gewinn übrigbleibt, der sich dann auch meist auf die Gagen / Merch der auftretenden Künstler positiv auswirkt. Die Gebührenerhöhung wird dazu führen das dieser Bereich wirtschaftlich enorm belastet wird. Und damit ist einer Gruppe am Allerwenigsten geholfen........den Urhebern, Musikern und Künstlern.

Wer diese Gebührenerhöhung unverhältnismäßig findet (so wie ich) kann sich gerne die Petition genauer unter folgendem Link durchlesen und sich beteiligen und diese ggf. unterzeichnen. Ab 50000 Unterzeichnern muss sich ein Ausschuss des Bundestages damit befassen. Sie läuft bis Mitte Juli.

Facebook bigger than MySpace!

Facebook has overtaken MySpace in the US. comScore stated that Facebook now has more members than MySpace.
Quite a turning point actually! In May Facebook had 70.278 million unique visitors whereas MySpace "only" had 70.255 million.
It remains to bee seen if and how this developement will affect the music scene (especially the smaller alternative and unsigned bands); I myself think that this is definitely an issue to keep an eye on over the next few months....

Life’s Soundtracks – “Sun Clouds & Rain”

Today’s soundtrack is for those summer days, that are not too sunny at all ;) You know the mood of a gathering thunderstorm? The sun, the clouds and finally the rain… these tracks sound like all three together. A bit rainy (listen to the guitar riffs ;)) a little bit depressive but still ... hmmmm ... light.
Let’s start with Venice Queen. I was told that some people don’t even know this great song by the RHCP. Well, we’re here to change that, right? And it has the sound of a beginning thunder storm in it, so it’s perfect for being the first song of this compi.
After that Radiohead’s There There also sounds a bit like falling rain to me and is a proper no. 2.
Bush also has to appear on a soundtrack about erratic summer weather. I personally think that all of their tunes would fit here, but I chose the two I like best, which are Solutions and Head Full Of Ghosts.
When you think of gloomy but chilling music most people also think of Muse’s tunes and of course they are featuring here as well.
And when you think of Muse, Placebo immediately is in your head as well. I myself tend to mix them up all the time ..., so here they are on no. 10 with their remarkable You Don't Care About Us.
Also, some of you may probably not know the German band MCF. They unfortunately split up a few years ago, but their music (and especially their live gigs) are unforgettable. Their song Lullaby really fits in the mood of “Sun Clouds & Rain”, so enjoy it on no. 8.
On no 12 and 13 I placed two songs by QOTSA, just in the same order as they appear on "R". You know them, and you know that they fit in a windy, rainy mood and there is actually nothing more to say about them (except that QOTSA rock as noone else, but I’m sure you knew that as well).
Then we got a second little musical “couple” here. On no. 14 there is Franz Ferdinand covering Air’s Sexy Boy and after that, I thought, the original performers should have a word as well. So I picked Talisman by Air to be no 15. I love this song, I just love it! It lets the sun shine even if it rains, and I guess, that’s what everyone of us needs from time to time.
Last but not least this compilation is concluded by an astonishing song from the Soundtrack of “The 5th Element”. It’s Little Light Of Love performed by RXRA and should lift up you mood like the first sunny spells after a rain storm ...

Sanity on appro?

I don't see any reason for a different post title am just too shocked about some reports I've just read.
The biggest German TV channel RTL is planning to kick off a show next week where parents "lend" their babies and infants to teenagers. Those youngsters are to look after them (in front of the live camera of course) in order to "test" how "adulthood" feels and what family life is about.
It's not only shocking for me how somebody could even think of such a format and that this idea was actually formed to a TV show. I think, that the fact, that after all there are some real, living, thinking people who are willing to "lend" their helpless infants to some youngsters, is even more alarming.
At least, I don't seem t be the only one enraged about this upcoming TV show. Various German authorities, associations and organizations were going to the barricades against "Adulthood on appro", the title of the show (see more info here)I even found an online campaign to collect signatures to hamper the broadcast at this page
. So far so good, a glimmer of light after all, but still I am asking myself

"Where is our society going anyway, when you have to tell people that such a thing is not right?"

I saw this one on Facebook (thanks to Richie) and just couldn't stop laughing. It's absolutely brilliant how this one in Antwerpen worked out and to that it's really fascinating how such a "thing" can bring people together.

Well, at least in good ol' Franconia ;) But even if your days are not filled with sunshine and cloudless skies at the moment, there are quite a lot of songs that make the sun shine anywhere. Loving Is What I Got for example: feeling good across the board ;) Some tunes are taken from the Soundtracks of the German movies "Sonnenallee" (Get It On and Give Me A Ticket For An Aeroplane) and "Schule" (this movie is about what students do in the summer before their A-Levels, i.e. sex, drugs and going swimming ... The Only One I Know and Get Wild Tonight are perfect songs for this).
Also, I put some other older songs on it like Superman, Heaven Is A Halfpipe (What happened to OPM, by the way??) and Another Day Goes By, they are not played a lot, what I think is a real shame (after all I remember Dakota Moon being number one in the German charts for weeks some time back in the 90s....).
Others, like Bohemian Like You, Walking On The Sun or Allstar just never get boring (for the radio stations AND for myself ;) ) and so they should be included in this little collection as well.

Youtube Germany starts blocking music videos

Sounds kind of familiar, doesn't it? About two weeks ago youtube started blocking music videos in the UK due to contractual disagreements with the English PRS.
Now nearly the same things are happening in Germany: YouTube's contract with the German collecting society GEMA is ending today and for the new one the GEMA are demanding 1 Cent per play of each music video (of GEMA artists). Too much for YouTube Germany, though. They claim that they would have financial losses with every play.
So YouTube will block all music videos on its German site until further notice.

So where to go now to watch some rockin' videos? Luckily some guys from Ireland had a good idea last year and established a video plattform just for music bands and their fans and called it MUZU.TV. They have no contracts with collecting societies, but direct ones with the artists resp. their (major) labels. Everyone is welcome to join and watch and upload music videos, interviews, fan videos, etc. MUZU. TV was an immediate success in Ireland last year and can now be watched from nearly everywhere (whereas the access to the site had been limited to Ireland and the UK for quite a time last year). And with the developements on YouTube it is becoming even more important as a platform for music lovers.

.... Hoarsebox just relesed a new single as well! "All I Need Now" is the second single taken from their EP "Cuckooland" and absolutely worth buying it! Even Dublin's Phantom 105.2 put it on their "Recommended" List.
With the new single, here come's a new music video as well ... I have to admit, I'm totally fascinated how they made it ... but see for yourself ... colourful, fancy, shrill ... Hoarsebox!

We Like Disco - Yeah - Yeah - Yeah!

... there simply is no way around singing along with ITO's new single "I Like Disco".
Everyone who ever saw one of their live gigs since last year (when they started to include "I Like Disco" in their live shows) will surely agree that this is one of the best tunes this Dublin four-piece band has ever been performing.
And actually it's not too "Disco" after all .... no synths, no violins, if you were thinking of something like that. Just the overall avid, handmade and ass-kicking sound that makes a great alternative rock-band.
This Sunday (Mar 22nd) ITO are celebrating the release of "I Like Disco" with a special Lauch Party at Whelan's. Say "I like disco" at the entrance and you only pay admission of €5 (instead of €10).

Klaus Fischer is reading "Trips und Träume"

On February 15th Klaus Fischer will be reading a few chapters of his "Krautrock" novel at Cafe Kult in Würzburg.
The reading starts at 8pm and admission is free. Come one come all!
Mr Fischer knows the music business like the back of his hand. He used to be a music/media editor at several well known German newspapers like the "Frankfurter Rundschau". Currently he is head of PR at one of the biggest concert promotion comanies in Germany.

Trips und Träume... ...erzählt die Geschichte einer Jugend in den frühen 1970er Jahren. Eine Jugend zwischen Krautrock und Kiff. Es ist ein Roman über die Rebellion einer freakigen Kleinstadt-Szene gegen den Spießermief jener Jahre und darüber mit Hilfe der Musik auszubrechen aus der Enge der Provinz. Was haben Jugendliche damals gedacht und gefühlt, welche Musik hörten sie, welche Klamotten trugen sie, was waren ihre Träume und Hoffnungen? Auch geht es darum, was ist heute, mehr als 30 Jahre später, von den Idealen dieser „Generation Freak“ (wie ich sie nenne) übriggeblieben. Loyalität, Freundschaft und Liebe, aber auch Schuldgefühle, Unentschlossenheit und verpasste Gelegenheiten sind Themen, die den Roman wesentlich bestimmen – ebenso wie das Leben vieler Angehöriger jener „Generation Freak“, die für den Roman eine wesentliche Zielgruppe darstellt. Geprägt ist diese Generation von einer inneren Zerrissenheit, die daher rührt, dass Jugendliche, Anfang der 1970er Jahre zwischen 15 und 19 Jahren alt, zu jung für 1968 waren, und es ihnen nicht wirklich gelang eine eigene Revolte gegen das Establishment auszuleben.

Everything is right with new shoes

No, for once this remark was not stated by a girl. It’s from a fun-loving song by Paolo Nutini, a Scottish singer and songwriter I recently discovered. “New shoes” appears on his album ”These Streets” from 2006 and was also released as a single. These tune really lifts your mood, whenever you listen to it.
And, most important: It’s about shoes and that nothing makes your day more than a brandnew pair! Well, I guess most girls will agree with Mr Nutini and am kinda convinced that this “understanding” song is the major reason for his huge success ;)
Anyway, I don’t want to withhold the very lively and quite witty lyrics from you. Enjoy!

Jan 23rd 2009 - thats the date! Fans of Franz Ferdinand have been waiting for it for three years now: the release of their third album "Tonight". First song on it will - of course - be Ulysses, which is on top of the German Alternative Charts right now.

The Single "Ulysses" will be released next Friday with three or five tracks on it.
